You're right, platitudes are never appropriate or satisfying. Because of crises, I so appreciate the book of Ecclesiastes, as it has given me a heads-up that there will be inexplicable uncertainties and tragedies in life - at least I can be grateful that God didn't give us a bunch of platitudes and didn't sugar-coat the truth. Doesn't always make the here and now much easier. I may still yell at God someday, but at least I can't say He lied to me about it. And I know He also suffered a lot. I agree that prayer is often the best sympathy. Thanks for writing so we can pray for this child.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6272120342505007987.post-77155331377727825972011-07-09T11:28:54.366-04:002011-07-09T11:28:54.366-04:00Since my ESPN junkie is currently out of the count...Since my ESPN junkie is currently out of the country I was unaware of this story. How unspeakably tragic. You have accurately penned the gut-wrenching questions all people of faith think at some point in our lives. None of the platitudes we use seem to apply. Prayer for the child, the player and the family is all we can do.Paulanoreply@blogger.com
